Walmart Marketplace Profit & Fee Calculator

Calculate your profit on a seller-fulfilled Walmart Marketplace sale after Walmart's referral fee and your own product, shipping, advertising, and other seller costs.

Walmart Marketplace charges sellers a referral fee — a percentage of the item's total sales price that depends on the product category, with some categories charging a flat rate and others a rate that changes above a price threshold. This calculator models one completed, non-refunded, seller-fulfilled item at a time for a standard, non-incentivized sale on Walmart.com — enter your price, any shipping/handling or gift wrap charged to the buyer, your fee schedule, and your own costs to see your real net profit.

Sale

The item's standard selling price for this sale. Walmart-funded Price Incentives and Reduced Referral Fee incentives are not modeled.

Walmart Fees

Collectibles, Office Products, and Outdoors Products & Sports each list a specific product-type option and an "Other" option — pick whichever matches this item.

Seller Costs

Your real carrier or fulfillment cost — completely separate from Shipping & Handling Charged to Buyer.

Include any third-party payout-provider fee here if one applies — Walmart does not cover it, and this calculator does not add it automatically.

Fill in the required fields and press Calculate to see your results here.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter this item's Product Price — its standard, non-incentivized selling price.
  2. Add any Shipping & Handling Charged to Buyer or Gift Wrap Charged to Buyer, if applicable.
  3. Choose the Referral Category / Fee Schedule that matches this item — Collectibles, Office Products, and Outdoors Products & Sports each list a specific product-type option plus an "Other" option.
  4. Add your own product cost, actual shipping/fulfillment cost, and other seller costs.
  5. Press Calculate, then check Net Profit and the fee breakdown to see exactly how it was built.

What is Walmart Marketplace?

Walmart Marketplace lets third-party sellers list and sell products on Walmart.com alongside Walmart's own inventory. Sellers can fulfill orders themselves (seller-fulfilled) or use Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS), Walmart's own pick-pack-ship program — a separate service with its own fee structure. This calculator models seller-fulfilled economics only; see "Walmart Marketplace vs. Walmart Fulfillment Services" below.

How Walmart Marketplace referral fees work

Walmart charges a referral fee on each completed sale — a percentage of the item's total sales price. The rate depends on the product's contract category: some categories charge one flat rate regardless of price, some charge a different rate on the entire price once it crosses a threshold, and Collectibles and a few others charge a progressively different rate on each portion of the price above a threshold. Walmart's current published referral-fee schedule does not list a minimum referral fee, so this calculator does not apply an Amazon-style minimum-fee floor.

What is included in total sales price?

Seller Revenue = Product Price + Shipping & Handling Charged to Buyer + Gift Wrap Charged to Buyer
Referral Fee Base = Seller Revenue

Walmart's referral fee is charged on item price plus shipping and handling plus gift wrap and similar charges. Separately stated and charged sales tax is directly excluded from this base — confirmed in Walmart's own Marketplace Learn documentation, not assumed — so this calculator has no sales-tax field of any kind.

Seller costs

Product / COGS Cost, Actual Shipping / Fulfillment Cost Paid by Seller, Packaging Cost, Advertising Cost Allocated to This Sale, and Other Seller Cost are all entered by you and never affect the Referral Fee Base — they only affect Net Profit. If you incur a third-party payout-provider fee (see below), include it under Other Seller Cost.

How Walmart Marketplace profit is calculated

The Walmart Referral Fee is calculated differently depending on which of the three schedule shapes the selected fee schedule uses:

FLAT
Referral Fee = Referral Fee Base x flat rate

PROGRESSIVE
Referral Fee = sum of each price portion x its applicable rate
(bands are summed before CartEconomics applies its deterministic final cent rounding)

WHOLE-AMOUNT SWITCH
Referral Fee = Referral Fee Base x the rate selected by the FULL Referral Fee Base
Total Walmart Fees = Walmart Referral Fee
Seller Operating Costs = Product Cost + Actual Shipping/Fulfillment Cost + Packaging + Advertising + Other
Total Costs = Total Walmart Fees + Seller Operating Costs

Net Profit = Seller Revenue - Total Walmart Fees - Seller Operating Costs
Profit Margin = Net Profit / Seller Revenue x 100
Effective Walmart Fee Rate = Total Walmart Fees / Seller Revenue x 100
Return on Total Cost = Net Profit / Total Costs x 100

Total Walmart Fees equals the standard Referral Fee alone in this seller-fulfilled V1 — Walmart does not publish a separate monthly fee, setup fee, or listing fee for standard Marketplace selling. No separate Walmart Marketplace payment-processing fee is automatically added by this calculator either; see Assumptions and Limitations below for how third-party payout-provider fees are treated. Walmart does not publish its internal cent-rounding method for the Referral Fee; CartEconomics uses deterministic HALF-UP cent rounding as its own estimation convention, summing progressive-band contributions at full precision before rounding once — this is not a Walmart-published accounting rule.

Walmart Marketplace vs. Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS)

This calculator models seller-fulfilled Walmart Marketplace sales only. WFS is Walmart's own pick-pack-ship program, with its own separate fulfillment fees, storage fees, and return-processing fees — none of which are modeled here. WFS fees are structurally different enough (weight/size-based fulfillment tiers, monthly storage charges, and WFS-specific return rules) that mixing them into this seller-fulfilled engine would misrepresent either model. A dedicated WFS calculator may be built separately in the future.

Price Incentives and promotional fees

Walmart offers at least two distinct promotional programs that this calculator deliberately does not model: Walmart-funded Price Incentives, where Walmart itself funds a lower customer-facing price while the seller can still be paid at the original price — so a discounted price a shopper sees does not necessarily mean a lower seller payout — and Reduced Referral Fee incentives, which can change the referral fee rate actually applied to a sale. Walmart also runs a temporary New-Seller Savings program with its own tiered referral-fee discounts for eligible new sellers. None of these are included here — this calculator models a standard, non-incentivized sale. If your account is enrolled in any of these programs, check Seller Center for your actual applicable rate.

Assumptions and Limitations

  • This is an estimate, not a Seller Center settlement reconciliation.
  • Models Walmart.com US Marketplace, USD, seller-fulfilled, exactly one item per calculation, for a completed, non-refunded sale, under the standard current referral-fee schedule for a standard, non-incentivized sale.
  • Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) fulfillment, storage, and return-processing fees are not modeled — this calculator is for seller-fulfilled economics only.
  • Walmart-funded Price Incentives, Reduced Referral Fee incentives, and New-Seller Savings are not modeled. If your account is enrolled in any of these, your actual referral fee or payout may differ from this estimate.
  • Separately stated and charged sales tax is excluded from the Referral Fee base — directly confirmed in Walmart's Marketplace Learn documentation — and this calculator has no sales-tax input.
  • No separate Walmart Marketplace payment-processing fee is automatically added. Third-party payout-provider charges are external and account-dependent; if you incur one, enter it manually under Other Seller Cost.
  • Refunds, returns, and any refund-related fee adjustments are not modeled.
  • Multi-item orders, mixed-category orders, and quantity are not modeled — this calculator is for exactly one item per calculation.
  • Account-specific negotiated contract rates are not modeled — this calculator uses Walmart's standard published referral-fee schedule.
  • Walmart does not publish its internal cent-rounding method for the Referral Fee. CartEconomics uses deterministic HALF-UP cent rounding as its own estimation convention — not a Walmart-published accounting rule.
  • Walmart's fee schedule can change. Verify current rates against Walmart's own Marketplace Learn documentation if a figure looks out of date.
  • This calculator is for general informational purposes only and is not tax, financial, legal, or investment advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Walmart Marketplace Referral Fee?

A percentage of an item's total sales price that Walmart charges on each completed sale, with the rate — and in some categories, a price threshold — depending on the product's contract category.

How much does Walmart charge sellers?

Standard Walmart Marketplace selling has one primary fee: the category-dependent referral fee. This calculator applies that fee automatically based on the fee schedule you select — see the full rate table above.

Does Walmart charge a monthly seller fee?

No standard monthly subscription fee is charged for Walmart Marketplace selling, unlike some other marketplaces' seller-plan fees. This calculator does not add one.

Does Walmart charge a listing fee?

No. Walmart does not charge a standard per-listing fee for Marketplace sellers.

Does Walmart charge referral fees on shipping?

Yes. Walmart's total sales price for referral-fee purposes includes shipping and handling charged to the buyer, not just the item price.

Is gift wrap included in the Referral Fee base?

Yes — gift wrap charged to the buyer is included in the total sales price used to calculate the referral fee, the same way shipping and handling are.

Is sales tax included in the Referral Fee base?

No. Walmart's own Marketplace Learn documentation directly confirms that separately stated and charged taxes are excluded from the referral fee base — this calculator has no sales-tax field.

How do category referral fees work?

Some categories charge one flat rate on the entire price. Others switch to a different rate on the entire price once it crosses a threshold (for example, Baby Products: 8% at or below $10, 15% above $10). A few categories — including Select Collectibles, Electronics Accessories, Furniture, Jewelry & Precious Metals, Appliances – Compact, and Watches — charge a progressively different rate on each portion of the price above a threshold.

What is the difference between Walmart Marketplace and WFS fees?

Walmart Marketplace referral fees apply to every sale regardless of who fulfills it. WFS (Walmart Fulfillment Services) is a separate, optional fulfillment program with its own fulfillment, storage, and return-processing fees, which this seller-fulfilled calculator does not model.

How do I calculate Walmart seller profit?

Enter your item's price, any shipping/handling or gift wrap charged to the buyer, your fee schedule, and your own product, shipping, packaging, and advertising costs. Net Profit shows what's left after Walmart's referral fee and your own costs.

Does this calculator add a Walmart payment-processing fee?

No separate Walmart Marketplace payment-processing fee is automatically added by this calculator. Third-party payout providers may charge their own account-dependent fees; if applicable, include them in Other Seller Cost.

How are refunds/returns treated?

Refunds and returns are not modeled in this calculator. This calculator estimates a completed, non-refunded sale only.

What seller costs should I include?

Your product/COGS cost, your real shipping or fulfillment cost, packaging, any advertising allocated to the sale, and any other seller cost specific to this item — including a third-party payout-provider fee, if one applies.

How accurate is this calculator?

It's an estimate built from Walmart's own published Marketplace Learn fee documentation, not a live readout from Seller Center — actual settlement figures can differ by cents due to rounding, and Walmart's fee schedule can change over time. Verify against your own account if precision matters for a specific decision.

Is New-Seller Savings included?

No. New-Seller Savings is a temporary, account-dependent referral-fee discount program and is not modeled in this calculator's standard fee engine.

Are Walmart Price Incentives included?

No. Walmart-funded Price Incentives and Reduced Referral Fee incentives are both excluded — this calculator models a standard, non-incentivized sale only.
