How the calculation works
Merchandise = Item Price x Quantity
Gross Customer Payment = Merchandise + Shipping + Sales Tax
Allocated Listing Fee = $0.20 x Quantity
Transaction Fee = 6.5% x (Merchandise + Shipping)
Payment Processing Fee = 3% x (Merchandise + Shipping + Sales Tax) + $0.25
Offsite Ads Fee = min(Offsite Ads rate x (Merchandise + Shipping), $100)
Total Etsy Fees = sum of the four fees above
Estimated Net Revenue = Merchandise + Shipping - Total Etsy Fees
Seller Operating Costs = Product Cost + Actual Shipping Cost + Packaging/Other Cost
Net Profit = Estimated Net Revenue - Seller Operating CostsSales tax is never treated as seller revenue — Etsy collects it on your behalf and remits it to the state, so it's excluded from Estimated Net Revenue and from the Profit Margin calculation entirely. It only affects the Payment Processing Fee, whose 3% base includes it; the Transaction Fee and Offsite Ads Fee both exclude sales tax.
Etsy charges the initial $0.20 listing fee when a listing is created, and each unit sold from a multi-quantity listing triggers its own $0.20 renewal. For profitability estimation, this calculator allocates $0.20 of listing/renewal cost to each unit sold in the order — an economic allocation for modeling purposes, not a claim about the exact moment Etsy charges each renewal.

No. This is an estimate based on the numbers you enter and Etsy's published fee schedule, for profitability planning — it isn't a live readout from your Etsy account, and it doesn't include subscriptions, ad spend, refunds, or other account-level adjustments this calculator doesn't model.
What are Etsy Offsite Ads fees, and how do I know if I'm on the 15% or 12% rate?
Offsite Ads are ads Etsy runs for your listings on external sites like Google, Facebook, and Pinterest — if a shopper clicks one and buys from your shop, Etsy charges a fee on that order. Etsy's rules state that once a shop reaches $10,000 USD in sales within any trailing 365-day period, it becomes subject to the 12% rate and mandatory Offsite Ads participation for the life of the shop — permanently, even if sales later drop back below that threshold. Shops that have never crossed that threshold are on the 15% rate and may opt out of Offsite Ads entirely. Check your Etsy shop settings if you're unsure which applies to you.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes — the Transaction Fee and Offsite Ads Fee are both calculated on your item price plus the shipping you charge the buyer, not the item price alone. Sales tax is excluded from both of those fees.
Why is sales tax excluded from Net Revenue and Profit Margin?
Etsy collects sales tax from the buyer on your behalf and remits it directly to the state — it's never money you keep, so it's excluded from Estimated Net Revenue and from the Profit Margin calculation. It does still affect the Payment Processing Fee, since that fee's 3% base includes it.
Why does the listing fee use Quantity instead of just $0.20 once?
Etsy charges the initial $0.20 when a listing is created, and each unit sold from a multi-quantity listing triggers its own $0.20 renewal. What does the $100 Offsite Ads cap mean?
Etsy's Offsite Ads fee never exceeds $100 on a single order, no matter how large the order is. This calculator computes the full percentage-based fee first and then caps it at $100 if needed.
Does this calculator include Etsy Ads or Etsy Plus?
No. Etsy Ads (onsite/search advertising) is a separate, seller-controlled ad budget, and Etsy Plus is a monthly shop-level subscription — neither has a fixed relationship to a single order, so both are out of scope for this calculator.
Is this calculator for non-US sellers?
No — it's built specifically around US Etsy sellers using Etsy Payments in USD. Payment processing rates, regulatory fees, and currency conversion all vary for non-US sellers and aren't modeled here.
